Words fall short in describing our disappointment over Thursday’s defeat. Yet again in this tournament we had to go through the terrible feeling of ‘so near yet so far.’ I was the mute witness at the other end, feeling utterly helpless, when Lasith Malinga got out. Back in the dugout, every-one was dumb-struck as it was hard to believe that we came so close to the total and still lost it. Once back from the game, my mind busied itself in the search of an answer for our defeats, and to my utter dismay I found myself dwindling with ifs and buts. I couldn’t find a definite answer and perhaps there was none, for cricket is a game of uncertainties.

What if I had not taken a single of the last ball of the nineteenth over? But then there was a counter logic to that. In these situations every run is important. What if Abhishek Nayar had not tried the same shot again? Make no mistake he batted with lot of grit and determination and almost did his job. What if I could’ve got some more strikes? 6 runs in 9 balls were very much gettable, but I only got to play one ball out of those nine balls. I asked myself so many times how I could have or as a team we could have approached this chase differently. I think in the first few overs we didn’t get that many runs and lost three wickets and that created a lot of pressure on the middle order. After scrutinising myself from every angle, all I could make out was, that we tried our best and eventually fortune wasn’t on our side. I would like to give full marks to Shane Warne and his team in the same breath. As the result suggests, they handled the tense moments of the match better than us and that’s why they are worthy winners.

One thing is for sure, that such games can leave you completely drained out and exhausted, especially, when you are not on the right side of the result. The more you think about it, the more you have that sinking feeling. But bygones are bygones. It’s a fresh day and we have some fresh challenges waiting for us. We obviously have some positives to take from the defeat of Thursday. One thing was that we really fought hard as a team and tried our best. And that is what we all aspire to do as professional cricketers. At times result will come our way and at times it won’t. Second is that Sachin Tendulkar is back with runs under his kitty and that is a very good news from the team’s point of views.

Batting under lights at Durban wasn’t easy as new ball was swinging and spinners were getting some grip and turn from the surface. We experimented with the new batting line up and one result doesn’t suggest that it hasn’t worked for us. We will sit before the game against Chennai Super Kings to discuss all the pros and cons and I am sure we will find a best possible way out to win our last two games. One can make all the strategies and make plans but it all boils down to how you play in those forty overs, how you execute your plans and handle the pressure situations. So, our aim is to win both the games and see where we end up in the points table. If we can win our last two games and some other matches go our way, we have a fair chance to make it to the final four.

  1. bloody hell, match against Rajasthan Royals.. was the display of chokers… what went wrong is the question right… do u real mean it… or just sake of saying u asked… few things went horribly wrong..
1>> Rahane coming at no 3 when Duminy, the in form batsman kept at no 6
2>> After getting good runs in Jadejas over, Sachin tried to hit false shot to Warne, if those 3 deliveries could have consumed by Sachin… story could be different
3>> Abhishek Nayar, played gem of the inning but shown poor patience… that shot was not needed that time
4>> you allowed Dhaval to take single on the last ball of 19th over, you being good hitter you could have done it in a single shot
5>> after getting the strike you took single on the 3rd ball and exposed no 11 batsman malinga
6>> as a senior pro, you didn’t passed the message to Malinga clearly, you could have asked him to stay back at the crease, and played it straight and run(may be this point isn’t valid as the ball was like that)

i would say very very poor captaincy

again in today’s match, when you, JP, bravo, and Nanda had bowled well, the 14th over was not needed from Kulkarni, who was murdered in his 3 overs… sorry to say, n feels so sad but it is the end of IPL season 2 for MI

for season 3, stripe Sachin from captaincy, give it to Sanath or some body else who is not choker…
no matter what start the inning with Sachin Sanath followed by JP
keep Dhaval out of the squad

wont say all the very best… coz… i don’t want to support the BLOODY CHOKERS

as a cricketer, i liked MI got thrashed out of the IPL 2, but as MI fan.. it hurt like anything

wins and defeats r part of the game.. though evaluation of reasons of defeat becomes necessary so as to learn from past mistakes and build up against such circumstances in future.. still, we r always with u paaji, whether its wins or defeats.. take care paaji..

  5. Guru says:

Well, it was unfortunate that Mumbai Indians lost the match, Sachin played a brilliant innings the way he handled Warne so rare to see those two legends competing against each other, the way he struck him for a four in the cover region and the way he struck for a six off Munaf patel ( i guess) i dont remember the bowler since i was enjoying Sachin’s innings, and the way he handled the whole match but it was unfortunate that Mumbai lost the match and also unfortunate that you got only one ball to play out of those crucial 9 balls, actually Mumbai is supposed to stand on top of the table as all the matches that Mumbai lost was only due to some shade difference… Well, Next year I am sure that you will lift the trophy and also the upcoming world cup…..

  9. Avis says:

Heart goes out for the team Bhajji….IT brought back bitter memories of the last year’s match against Kings XI….6 out of 9, was definitely gettable…According to me, i think Abhishek Nayyar shoulnt have tried that slog shot again…perhaps he shud have just pcked up a single and went about it in a more calmer way…. however, these things r beyond one’s control… Post match analysis only leads to ifs and buts, as u rightly said…lets hope that next yr we come back stronger….

Off to WC T20…. Sure that our players wud have got some great practice before the world cup begins….Fear, fatigue might have been created…

  10. karma veer says:

  16. smit parikh says:

    Boss Bhajji….
yar yeh likhne se kuch nahi hota…
The thing goes right or wrong on the ground. Every time wen u win u think we did well. Every time u loose, u give excuses. This went wrong this went right.
But after analyzing this wat is the outcome?
U have just 1 game left with RCB. Now u ve that power to spoil that party.
Go man do it. But still I am the fan of Rahul n m supporting his team. It will be very tough for u to beat them. I “wish” u win but i “want” RCB to win.
    Have a nice game dude.
